An Interesting Night!

Did you guess what my project from yesterday was?
It is a burlap table runner with red ticking stripes on it.

I hosted Ladies' Night at my house last night and wanted to have a somewhat presentable table for my girlfriends. So, I sewed a small table runner and painted red stripes at the end to make it not so plain. I added several candles and lots of pumpkins to make it more festive. I think it turned out well, until several glasses of wine and martinis were spilled on it. But hey, it served its purpose well!

I also cleaned up the china buffet in the dining room and turned it into a stocked bar for the night. It was a HUGE hit and we all had a blast! The girls each brought a dish for potluck and a bottle of wine. We had lots of yummy food and drinks!

Flea Market Finds

This summer, Paul and I went to the flea market faithfully each month in Elkhorn. We found a few treasures for the new house. Here are the biggest pieces that I purchased:



This is an old library catalog that I am currently using in my office/craft room for all of my art supplies. I absolutely LOVE it!

This is a very large reclaimed wood table that we are using as a coffee table in the living room. The wood was reused from an old boxcar and the steel for the legs came from an old railroad track. I thought it was very neat. It is HEAVY and we had a challenging time getting it inside the house. I cut up an old piece of towel for under the legs, so the steel legs will not scratch the wood floors. Im currently on the look out for a rug.


As all of you know, I have many quilts and blankets but no place to store them. Ive been hunting for a functional chest for a long, long time. I came across this one and fell in love with it! It is now in our living room and stores pillows, quilts and blankets.

Our house is slowly becoming a home. I am still needing some significant furniture pieces, but you cannot make a "home" overnight. It is such a rewarding process to see a piece from the store or flea market fit right into the house.

Miss Rosie is ONE year old today! Happy Birthday, beautiful girl.

An Announcement: Its Fall!

After getting a huge load of pumpkins from a farm market last week, I decorated the front porch with some mums and the pumpkins. I think the contrast of white, black, gray and orange pumpkins helps the porch look festive. Not to mention the neat textures... the pumpkins with warts are my favorite! All I need is a wreath on the front door.

Fall Jackpot

Last week I had to go to a very small town near the border of Iowa for an evaluation. I was there for two days with my colleague, Holly. On the way home, we past many charming farm markets on the side of the country roads. We decided to stop at one of them to buy some pumpkins to decorate our front porches.

The woman who was running this particular stand informed us that her 4 elementary aged children planted and raised the entire pumpkin harvest themselves. The money raised from selling the pumpkins will go towards their college funds. Isn't this a great idea! They posted a darling note by the box to collect money from their customers.

They had a large variety of pumpkins to choose from and we ended up with over 200 lbs of pumpkin in our little state car! They were so reasonably priced- $4.00 for a large pumpkin. We would have ended up paying $15 or $20 easily in a store.

It was great fun!

It is officially FALL in Wisconsin now.

A Bold Change!

Hello! Today I am going to get my hair cut. Ive been thinking about it for a while. In the last 10 years, I've had the same hair- same color, same style. So, I think now its time for a CHANGE! What kind of change? This time, I want a BOLD change. So, we'll see what happens today...

WOW! I asked for a bold change, and thats what I got! Wow... Its very different! I like the color. The cut isn't bad - its very SHORT! Wow! I need to play around with it a bit. So, we'll see if I like the style over time.
